Marvel Monday #1: This weeks news

Comic News

There is a ton of news this week due to the C2E2 convention in Chicago.  I couldn’t possibly get round to posting all the news from the event (and all the other news that has been released) so this is a round-up of what I found most interesting.

I guess the big news of the week is the announcement of the death of Wolverine.  Yes they have called time on one of the most popular comic book characters of all time.  He probably won’t stay dead (no one stays dead in Marvel apart from) but we will see his end played out in The Death of Wolverine, a five issue series from Steve McNiven and Charles Soule starting this September.  Here is a look at the first cover.

In other X-Men news a new Storm series will be kicking off in July.  This is the first real solo series for this character which is kind off shocking as Storm is awesome and should have gotten something dedicated to her ages ago but at least it is happening now.  The series is being created by Greg Pak and Victor Ibanez.  More information can be found in USA Today if you are interesting in knowing more.

Original Sin was the centre of a lot of attention at C2E2 and with surprises such as Thor & Loki having a sister, and the revelation that Peter Parker was not the only one bitten by those pesky spiders it is not hard to see why.

The new addition to Asgardian royal family is Angela someone we have seen before in both Guardians of the Galaxy and Age of Ultron.

Marvel.com has a great interview with Wil Moss and Al Ewing that gives some great insight into Angela’s place in the Marvel Universe and how she will affect her siblings.

Marvel on TV

The synopsis for the last episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has been released:

"Beginning of the End" - Dark secrets are revealed as Coulson and his team put everything on the line to stop Garrett and the forces of Hydra, on the explosive season finale of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Also I heard today that Netflix’s Daredevil series will take place in the MCU.  This is good news because it means after The Defender’s (also on Netflix) Daredevil could appear in MCU movies, maybe even get one of his own.  It also means that the 3 other Netflix series (Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist) will also be MCU.  This opens up a million possibilities for the future of Marvel at the movies.  For lots more information about Daredevil check out this great article at Collider.

Marvel at the movies

Marvel released some new Guardians of the Galaxy stills via the GOTG facebook page.  Two feature Chris Pratt as Peter Quill which is nice because he isn't hard to look at but the most interesting is our first proper look at Karen Gillan as Nebula.  I think she looks amazing the effort that has gone into her look is insane but worth it.

Last but not least the Amazing Spider-Man 2 special edition blu-ray has been revealed.  It is literally one of the most horrifying things I have ever seen. Good luck sleeping tonight.

Other bits

If you have some spare time check out these amazing Marvel character portraits from the Mike Mitchell x Marvel x Mondo at the Austin Mondo Gallery.  They are awesome and worth taking a look through.  You can see the whole collection here.

Thats it for this weeks Marvel Monday.  Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

GOT series 4 trailer feels post

After much waiting the trailer for series 4 of Game of Thrones was finally released last night, and as expected it is absolutely amazing.  As a reader of the books I have been looking forward to this series because I think it takes the characters to some unexpected and exciting places.  It is more political, more twisted and a little less war hungry maybe.  It is also less about the Starks and as the trailer demonstrates a lot more about the Lannisters.

The trailer has carefully shown you just a peek of things to come but left most of the bigger moments out without even a hint of what’s around the corner, and trust me there are some massive bits coming up.

Had to have a GIF here because that face...and that tunic
The stand out moment has to be the introduction of The Red Viper, or Oberyn Martell the Prince of Dorne (played by Pedro Pascal).  For a new character he was very heavily featured in the trailer so expect him to stir my feelings things up a bit.

Other exciting moments were the Night watch going up against the wildlings.  Ygritte and Jon Snow on separate sides again? Either way the fall out looks great, it is one of my favourite action scenes from the books so I can’t wait to see it on the screen.

Then there is Daenerys and her ever growing dragons.

"They have a choice, they can live in my new world or they can die in their old one,"

This is a fairly defining series for her in terms of character development.  In series one she was just a girl but now she is growing into a queen, is it time for her to decide what kind of leader she wants to be? It certainly sounds like it.

It may not have been the most action packed trailer but there is certainly a lot to look forward to.  I cannot wait until April!

TV & Movie news roundup

Sherlock

Sherlock will be returning to our screens on the 1st of January 2014 the BBC announced today via, well, via hearse.  The hearse visited some of the filming locations of the show in a publicity stunt to promote the show.

Episode two will air on 5th January and the third episode on 12th January.

Transformers: Age of Extinction

New images for the fourth Transformers movie were released today.  The Transformers franchise started with a bang but the last two movies failed to impress.  Maybe a new cast will liven things up again, we will have to wait and see!

They are not the most interesting of stills but we get to see some of the new cast.

TV News - The Week in Promos

Agents of Shield

We are coming up to the mid season finale in the hit and miss Marvel's Agents of Shield and things are looking a little dramatic.  It looks like (finally) in 'The Bridge' we are actually going to be seeing some superhero action, something this series has been sorely missing in my opinion.

The Originals

I have to admit that I have not started watching this yet.  I am not the biggest Vampire Diaries fan but without the irritating Elena I might actually like this so I should probably get round to starting it.  For those that are watching, here is a new promo for Reigning Pain in New Orleans.

Almost Human

I cannot wait to watch this one but it currently doesn't have an air date in the UK.  For those of you who are lucky enough to be able to watch there here is the promo for episode 4, The Bends.

Doctor Who News

The First image for Doctor Who's Christmas episode (The Time of the Doctor) has been revealed.  Now that the 50th anniversary is done I expect promotion for the Xmas episode to be pretty full on.

‘Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars - and amongst them, the Doctor.

Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.’ (taken from BBC)

From the picture it is clear that the cybermen and The Silence are back in action and of course we know that Matt Smith will be leaving the role and Capaldi stepping in.  How that exchange will take place remains a mystery (as expected.)

Also, Orla Brady has been cast in the episode as someone from the Doctor's past.  Some people seem to think that Brady may be taking over as the Doctor's Assistant and that she would be a better match for Capaldi's Doctor than the current assistant, Clara, played by Jenna Coleman.  I kind of see where they are coming from but I doubt that will happen, but you never know what Moffat has up his sleeve and at this point nothing would really surprise me.

ETA: If you zoom in and focus on the fire between The Doctor and Cara you will see Peter Capaldi stareing back at you!

TV News: YA roundup

CW are certainly getting behind Young Adult books at the moment.  The Carrie Dairies (The Sex and the City prequels) by Candace Bushnell will be hitting the small screen in January 2013.

Also, they have ordered a pilot of The Selection by Kiera Cass.  I am not surprised at this news, The Selection and the Kiera Cass made a lot of waves when this book was released, (not all of them good waves it has to be said) so it was only a matter of time before some company snapped this one up.

I have not read The Carrie Diaries but loved Sex and the City and I know that a lot of the people behind that series is also on board for the prequel.  I have read The Selection (you can read my review here) and I wasn't much of a fan, but I  will give it a go.  It wouldn't be the first time that a TV series is better than the book behind it (Vampire Diaries).

What do you think of this news? Excited or don't really care?
